Fotor Review – An Easy Design Tool and Photo Editor

Having been introduced to Fotor, an online picture editor, I was keen to see what it has to offer compared to Canva Pro, which if you know me, you know I am a HUGE advocate for.  This was quite an exciting project, as I spend a large part of my working day creating social media graphics, along with blog and website graphics, so I was very keen to know if Fotor offers me that little bit extra as an easy design tool.

Design type in a book

They have a large selection of Templates, which gives you enough inspiration if you’re lacking, but if like me you usually start with a blank page giving you the freedom to make the entire design yourself, there is plenty of additional functions to utilise.

Photo Editing

Unlike Canva, Fotor has excellent photo editing tools, which are a match to the Lightroom App – what a great comparison!

Fotor’s online photo editor lets you edit, crop and resize photos, add photo effects, change the background of photo online, add text to photo, add stickers and photo frames as well as create online HDR photos.

If you are an Instagram user or a big fan of filters, this is a winner because you can add filters to your images too!  Want to add some clip art to those Insta photos? You can do that also.

Here is a quick example in just a few minutes using the Smoothing and Wrinkle remover.

Photo Edit Options

There are many options available under Edit Photo including, Basic, Effect, Beauty, Frames, Sticker, and Text.

This is an example using a Frame and Colour Splash. You can see how it really draws attention to a specific area of the the image with an injection of colour.

With several types of photo collage templates to choose from such as funky collage, text collage and shape collage, you simply upload your photos and drag and drop – it’s as simple as that!

Saving And Sharing

Your work is easily saved and shared – either directly by simply copying and pasting a link, or to the most popular social media platforms! The following are available:-

  • Facebook
  • Twitter
  • Google+
  • Pinterest
  • Tumblr
  • Facebook Messenger

Canva Vs Fotor

Interestingly, this easy design tool is comparable with Canva with its design and collage capabilities.  It didn’t take me long to work out the small differences between them both and within (literally) minutes, I was working as quickly as I would be in Canva Pro.

Canva is hugely popular amongst my Blogger and Virtual Assistant friends. However, many of the images can often lack originality. I see the same Canva templates on Pinterest time and time again which can become quite bland.  Fotor definitely adds the extra Va Va Voom with their template originality.

With a graphic design tendency, I have always been interested in design trends. That includes brand colour, so it is worth while to note you can save your brand colours on both Fotor AND Canva, which is immensely helpful.

Canva wins on the number of templates, stock photos, and additional icons and graphics.

However, Fotor comes out top with offering the fabulous addition of the photo editing capabilities that are not dissimilar to the Lightroom App.

I was very impressed with Fotor, and have been thrilled to be introduced to this product, which is an all in one Design and Photograph Tool. I look forward to using this again and sharing with you my creations!
